국가발전에 관한 오천석과 정범모의 교육발전 논의 비교: 한국의 교육발전론 비평

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 국가발전에 있어 교육의 역할과 기능은 어떠해야 하는지에 관한 오천석과 정범모의 학문적 논의를 비교, 검토함으로써 해방 이후부터 1990년대까지 한국의 교육발전론이 지닌 특징을 살펴보고, 이를 비판적으로 성찰하는 데에 있다. 교육발전론은 교육을 발전과 국가발전이라는 개념과 관련지어 교육의 특성을 밝히고자 하는 연구주제의 하나로서, 본 연구에서는 두 교육연구자의 교육발전 논의를 비교하기 위하여 교육의 개념, 교육의 목적/목표, 국가발전에 대한 관점, 그리고 경제성장을 위한 교육의 기능을 본 연구의 논의틀로 제시하였다. 이 두 교육연구자의 교육발전에 관한 논의를 비교, 분석한 결과, 비록 오천석과 정범모는 다른 시기에 활동하였고, 다른 국가적 과제를 떠안았음에도 불구하고 오천석부터 시작하여 정범모로 이어지는 근대 한국 교육의 발전은 국가의 발전을 위한 주요 수단으로 기능한 것으로 밝혀졌다. 지금까지 우리 사회가 나아가야 할 방향과 구체적 방안을 모색하는 과정에서 교육의 자율성을 발휘하지 못했던 경험을 살펴보고 성찰하는 것은 적어도 미래교육의 상과 미래사회를 위한 교육연구의 과제를 구체화하기 위한 좋은 토대가 될 것이다.

The purpose of this research is to explore and compare the academic discourses of Oh Cheon-Seok and Chung Beom-Mo regarding the role of education in national development. In addition, the characteristic of Korean education development theories from 1945 to 2000 will be examined and critically reviewed. Education development theory is a theory which reveals the feature of education in relation to development and national development. In this research, it is suggested as a research framework that the two educationists definition and purpose of education, perspectives of national development and the role of education for economic growth. The results of the study from the comparison and analysis of their arguments about education development suggest that although Oh Cheon-Seok and Chung Beom-Mo worked at different periods and carried out different national tasks, the educational development of modern Korea was considered as a significant method for national development. This research is expected to contribute to design education and educational tasks for future societies by reflecting the experience where education was highly dependent on development tasks.
