쓰기 과정에서 생성하기와 검토하기의 역동적 상호작용

Abstract

이 연구는 쓰기 과정 운용의 다양성을 설명하기 위하여 역동적 상호작용의 원리를 제안하고자 한다. 일원적이거나 절차적으로 구성된 기존의 쓰기 과정 이론들과 달리, 역동적 상호작용의 원리는 사전 계획을 세우는 경우와 세우지 않는 경우를 중심으로 쓰기 과정이 다양하게 운용될 수 있는 가능성을 보여준다. 사전 계획의 유무는 쓰기 과정의 질적인 차이이기보다는 유형상 차이의 문제로 볼 수 있다. 그러므로 역동적 상호작용의 원리는 이러한 유형의 차이가 존재하는 근원적인 이유가 무엇인지를 밝히는 쓰기 과정의 작동 원리라 할 수 있다. 연구의 방법으로는, 먼저 쓰기의 전 과정에 대한 다차원적인 자료를 수집하고, 이를 토대로 근거 이론의 방법론을 적용한 질적 자료 분석을 실시하였다. 이를 위하여, 38명의 중학교 3학년 학습자들을 1차 모집한 후에 이들 중에서 최대변량의 방법으로 심층 관찰 대상 8명을 표집하였다. 표집된 대상으로부터 각각 7~9회에 걸쳐 자료를 수집하였으며 분석에 활용한 쓰기 과정 사례 수는 초기 모집자를 포함하여 총 77회이다. 다차원적 관찰 자료는, 워드 프로세서 글쓰기 과정을 녹화한 동영상 캡처 자료, 해당 쓰기 과정의 행위 의미들을 이끌어내기 위한 사후 면접, 자가기록, 사전 설문지 등으로 구성되었다. 질적 분석의 방법론은 근거이론에 기초하였으며 분석의 편의와 타당성을 높이기 위하여 질적 분석 프로그램인 아틀라스티아이(ATLAS.ti)를 사용하였다. 코딩은 다양한 방식의 결합 도식 및 일부 수치화 방법을 활용하여 분석에 엄정을 기하고자 하였다. Ⅱ장에서는 쓰기 과정의 인지적 성격을 규명하는 대표적인 이론들을 문제-해결의 사고 과정 기반 이론, 텍스트 구성 및 언어학 기반 이론, 작동 양식성 및 인지 요소 기반 이론, 쓰기 과정의 다양성을 추구하는 이론의 네 부류로 나누어 살펴보았다. 또한 계획하기 및 수정하기의 과정에 대한 기존 논의들이 어떠한 의의와 한계를 지니는지를 알아보았으며, 이를 바탕으로 쓰기 과정에 대한 새로운 접근의 필요성을 언급하였다. 사고 중심의 관점에 대한 회의, 하위과정 중심의 위계에 대한 회의, 그리고 사전 계획의 필요성에 대한 회의가 이에 해당한다. Ⅲ장에서는 쓰기 과정의 분석 과정 및 결과를 제시하였다. 분석의 과정은 질적 기술을 위주로, 결과의 제시는 수치화 자료의 분석을 위주로 이루어졌다. 이에 따라 사전 계획 유무에 따른 유형화 가능성을 확인하고 유형화 결과도 제시할 수 있었다. 수치화와 유형화 결과를 통해 비(非)-사전 계획 유형의 쓰기 과정 추동력은 수정하기에 있음을 확인할 수 있었으며, 이로써 쓰기 과정을 이끌어 가는 두 축의 힘은 계획하기와 수정하기에 있음을 밝힐 수 있었다. Ⅳ장에서는 Ⅲ장의 질적 기술과 수치화 결과를 바탕으로 한 해석의 내용을 제시하고 이러한 이론적 접근이 교육적으로 어떤 의미가 있는지 살펴보았다. 해석의 결과에 따르면, Ⅲ장의 유형화 결과는 이분법적으로 양분된다기보다는 정도에 따라 배열되는 관계이다. 그러므로 쓰기 과정을 다양하게 운용하게 만드는 원리는, 대립되는 두 축 사이의 관계를 통해 구성되는 상호작용의 양상을 띠게 된다. 필자들은 극단적인 계획 중심부터 극단적인 수정 중심에 이르기까지 다양한 방식의 쓰기 과정을 운용하게 되며, 이러한 쓰기 과정의 선택에 작용하는 원리를 역동적 상호작용의 원리라 명명하였다. 역동적 상호작용의 원리는 사고와 행위 사이에 감각작동적 관계가 성립된다는 점에서 출발한다. 즉, 글쓰기의 과정 중에는 사고로부터 촉발된 행위만이 존재하는 것이 아니라 행위로부터 촉발된 사고도 존재하며 양자 사이에 상호적 관계가 성립한다는 것이다. 이러한 설명은 글쓰기를 문제-해결 과정으로 보려는 기존의 인지적 입장과 뚜렷한 차이가 있다. 또 하나의 원리는 생성과 검토 사이의 변증법적 관계에 의해 성립된다. 생성으로서의 사고와 생성으로서의 행위, 그리고 검토로서의 사고와 검토로서의 행위, 네 차원이 변증법적으로 결합하며 쓰기 과정이 진행되며, 이 네 차원은 결과적으로 계획, 표현, 읽기, 수정의 형태로 나타난다. 역동적 상호작용의 관점은 기존의 사고 중심의 관점에 비해 쓰기의 행위 측면 및 표현하기 과정의 의미를 더욱 강조할 수 있다는 점, 계획과 표현 사이의 상호적 관계를 위한 상위인지적 조절에 주목할 수 있다는 점, 다양성을 고려하는 맥락 위주의 전략을 생성할 수 있다는 점에서 의의를 가진다. 쓰기 과정의 다양성을 고려하는 교수-학습은 이러한 관점을 바탕으로 각 쓰기 과정 유형별 문제점을 극복할 수 있는 해결책을 모색하는 방향으로 이루어질 수 있다.

This study aims at proposing the Dynamic Interaction Model of the writing process in order to explain operational diversity of the writing processes. Unlike several established theories which explain them in the unitary and procedural way, the Dynamic Interaction Model shows possibility of the diverse operation of the writing processes on the basis of whether they include preplanning or not. Dynamic Interaction Model is, therefore, one of the writing process models which determine fundamentals of making differences in the types. As for the research method, I utilize qualitative data analysis with multi-dimensional observation on the writing processes. 77 cases of writing processes of the 38 students in the 9th-grade and 8 participants for the deeper observation among them are analyzed. Data is composed of recorded AV captures of the word-processor writing, interviews just after writing, self-reports, and preliminary questionaires. Checking for acuracy and validity, data is settled by stages based on the grounded theory by means of QDA programm ATLAS.ti. Coding is carried out using various matrix and partial quantification for the purpose of obtaining accuracy. Chapter Ⅱ examines representative theories on the cognitive processes in writing. These theories can be divided into 4 categories: the theories based on the thinking process as problem-solving, the theories based on the text production and linguistics, the theories based on the processing modalities and cognitive factors, and the theories pursuing diversity in the writing processes. Chapter Ⅱ also examines existing studies on the planning and revising, which draw a necessity of a novel approach. Chapter Ⅲ presents analyzing processes and results of the writing processes. Analyzing process is carried out based on the qualitative description, whereas results presentation based on quantification of data. In doing so, possibility of categorization according to whether or not they include preplanning is verified. These quantified and categorized results confirm the fact that driving force of the non-preplanning types comes out of revising. It is concluded that two axes which lead writing processes would be both planning and revising. Chapter Ⅳ draws a model of the writing process through the reexamination of the results of chapter Ⅲ. Writers manage their own writing processes in various ways from the extreme plan-centered to the extreme revision-centered. Plausible explanation can be made to show the principles in choosing writing processes, named as The Dynamic Interaction Model of writing. This model is based on the sensorimotor relationship between thought and act. In other words, there exist not only the act stimulated from the thought but also the thought stimulated from the act. This explanation is differentiated from the problem-solving perspectives in this sense. Second basis of this model is the dialectic relationship between generating and reviewing. There are 4 dimensions, thought as generating, act as generating, thought as reviewing, and act as reviewing, which dialectically combinate with each other. Teaching and learning of considering operational diversity could find solutions on the problems of each writing process type. Various management of preplanning can be the main principle for the plan-based types, whereas metacognitive control for the revision-based types.
