dc.description.abstract2009년 경기도를 시작으로 혁신학교가 시작되어 전국적으로 확
산 운영되고 있다. 혁신학교는 시대의 변화에 따른 패러다임의 변화에 적응하고 공교육의 위기에 대한 해결 방안을 목적으로 운영되고 있다. 공교육의 정상화를 단위 학교에 자율성을 부여하고 학교 구성원들의 자발적 참여와 소통, 협력을 통해 학교의 상황에 맞는 변화와 학교 혁신을 이루고자 하는 노력이다.
본 연구는 일반학교에 근무 중인 교사가 혁신학교에 지원하여
근무를 하면서 새롭게 경험하는 상황에 주목한다. 외부 관찰자의 시선이 아닌 혁신학교에서 실제 근무하며 생활하고 있는 교사의 관점에서 혁신학교 맥락에서 새롭게 형성되는 학교 구성원들의 관계를 살펴보고 새로운 관계 형성을 통해 이루어지는 상호작용 및 의사소통 경험의 모습을 탐색하고자 한다.
연구자는 2011년 9월 혁신학교로 개교한 서울A초등학교에서 일
반학교에서의 교직 경력이 5년 이상인 교사 9명을 대상으로 면담을 실시하고 질적 자료를 분석하였다.
연구 참여자들이 경험한 일반학교에서의 상황은 각 학교가 처한
맥락에 따라 다양하였다. 일반학교에서 경험한 내용을 살펴보면
우선, 연구 참여자들은 비민주적인 학교 문화, 관리자와의 갈등을 경험했다. 또한 동료 교사들과 소통하지 못하는 모습을 나타냈다. 관료주의, 형식주의 학교 문화와 과중한 행정 업무는 교사들을 수동적 존재로 만들고 동료와 소통하지 못하며 고립되는 개인주의의 모습으로 나타냈다.
이와 비교하여 연구 참여자들이 자발적으로 희망하여 지원한 혁
신학교에서의 경험은 이전에는 경험하지 못했던 새로운 경험들이었다. 연구 참여자들은 학교 구성원들이 모두 참여하여 민주적으로 운영되는 교사 회의와 학년 공동체를 통해 민주적 의사소통을 경험하였으며 학교에 대한 주인의식과 동료에 대한 믿음을 형성할 수 있었다.
학교 구성원들이 서로 신뢰하고 협력하는 모습을 바탕으로 학생
중심, 수업 중심 환경을 조성하기 위해 행정 업무 전담팀의 운영
을 실시하여 교사들은 수업에 집중하며 동교 교사들과 함께 소통하며 연구할 수 있는 환경을 만들었다.
혁신학교에서의 근무를 통해 교사들이 경험한 변화의 모습은 첫
째, 학교 구성원들의 민주적 소통을 위한 학교 조직과 환경의 변
화이다. 둘째, 민주적 의사소통을 통해 개인의 가치관이 변화하고 학교 구성원들 사이의 협력적 관계가 형성되었다. 그러나 의사소통과정에서 서로에 대한 이해의 부족으로 갈등의 모습이 나타나기도 했으며 자신의 기대와 다른 혁신학교의 모습에 실망하기도 하였다.
서울A초등학교는 개교이후 짧은 시간에 많은 변화와 새로운 시
도를 통해 학교 구성원들 사이에 소통과 협력의 학교문화를 만들어 변화를 모색하고 있다. 교사들은 혁신학교에서의 근무를 통해 일반학교에서는 경험하지 못했던 새로운 학교 문화와 구조를 경험하고 있다. 자발적 참여를 바탕으로 한 새로운 경험은 교사들에게 자극과 변화의 계기가 되고 있으며 혁신학교에서의 민주적 의사소통이 교사들에게 성찰과 발전의 기회가 되는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.
