- Abstract
- Poly(imidazolium)s (2) derived from 4-vinylimidazoliums (1) have been used as a precatalyst in the benzoin condensation and the formation of -butyrolactones from benzaldehydes and methyl acrylate. The poly(N-heterocyclic carbene)s (3) generated from 2 showed higher catalytic activities than those displayed by a monomeric analogue 1 and were successfully recovered and reused without loss of performance over several cycles in the benzoin condensation reaction.
