Camille Saint-Saëns 의 Sonata Op.168 에 대한 분석 및 고찰

Abstract

카미유 생상스(Camille Saint-Saëns, 1835-1921)는 프랑스 후기 낭만주의의 대표적인 작곡가이자 오르가니스트이다. 그는 관현악곡, 협주곡, 오페라, 극음악, 실내악, 교회음악, 발레음악, 오라토리오, 칸타타, 가곡 등을 포함하여 300여곡의 작품을 남겼으며, 1870년대 프랑스 음악의 르네상스를 이끌었던 작곡가로 평가되고 있다. 생상스가 말년에 작곡한 <Sonata, Op.168 for Bassoon and Piano>(1921)는 전통적인 고전주의 형식을 토대로 바로크양식에서 영향을 받은 장식적이고 유연한 선율과 19세기 화려한 예술적 기교가 결합된 곡으로, 주요 바순 독주곡 레퍼토리 중 하나이다. 본 논문에서는 작곡가 생상스의 생애와 그의 작품 경향, 그리고 생상스가 활동했던 당대의 프랑스 음악문화와 음악전통에 대해 고찰하고, 그의 실내악 작품 중 하나인 <Sonata, Op.168 for Bassoon and Piano>(1921)를 다각도로 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 이 작품은 고전적 전통과 낭만적 색채가 절충된 생상스의 고유한 음악 양식을 잘 보여주며, 더불어 바순 고유의 음색과 악기 특성이 잘 나타나고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구가 바순 연주자들로 하여금 생상스와 이 작품에 대한 이해를 돕고 더 좋은 연주를 위한 바람직한 방향을 제시하게 되기를 기대한다.

Camille Saint-Saëns (1835-1921) is one of the representative composers and an organist of Late French Romanticism. In his musical career, he left as many as three hundred pieces including symphonies, concertos, theatres, chamber ensembles, church musics, ballets, oratorios, cantatas, lieder, and et cetera. He is honored as the leading composer of the Renaissance of French Music in 1870s. Saint-Saëns <Bassoon Sonata Op. 168>(1921) is one of his late works. Having the traditional style and structure of Classicism as its ground sill, it is the piece where ornamental and pliable melody line influenced by the Baroque style is interwoven with splendid techniques of the 19thcentury, and is considered as one of the major repertoires for solo bassoon still up to this date. In this paper, I considered the life and work style of Saint-Saëns as a composer, and musical tradition and culture of French at the time in depth, and analyze his <Bassoon Sonata Op. 168>(1921) in polygonal perspectives. As a result, I could confirm that this sonata piece well displays the very musical style of Saint-Saëns, which is refined compromise between the Classical tradition and the Romantic color, and is adequate for revealing the unique timbre and instrumental characters of the bassoon. I expect this research to be informative and exemplar guidance to the bassoon players in better understanding and performance of the piece.
