남북한 음악교류의 양상과 방향

Abstract

In this paper, I review the aspects of inter-Korean music exchanges that have been going on in the past and propose the direction of future inter-Korean music exchanges Inter-Korean music exchanges were divided into four periods from 1985 to 2018. The exchange of the first period has great significance in that the inter-Korean music exchange is embodied for the first time. Compared to 1985, when the hostile feelings toward each other were expressed, in 1990, they looked for unification-oriented commonalities, and found elements that would act positively for both Koreas. In the second period of inter-Korean music exchange, there was music exchange in various fields centered on private organizations. But there were many occasions that stopped at one time. And South Korea was more active in exchanges than North Korea. For the next decade, music exchange events have never been realized. However, rather than actual exchanges, virtual space has been on the way of music exchange on YouTube. Through these exchanges, I have seen that North Korean music is becoming a content for South Koreans. Music exchanges through YouTube, a virtual space, were realized in 2018 in 16 years of actual exchange. The exchange of music with the resumption of political exchanges can be considered to have contributed greatly to the recognition of the national community of the two Koreas, even if there are limitations. For the future inter-Korean music exchanges, the South and the North should strive to contribute to restoring trust. To this end, unification education and cultural diversity education related to inter-Korean cooperation need to be done at the national level. Also, whatever the way, we need to meet more often and be exposed to your music more often. And then it is also necessary to establish a process for long-term, regular exchange based on trust.

이 글에서는 그동안 진행되었던 남북 음악 교류의 양상을 검토하면서 향후 남북 음악 교류의 방향을 제안하였다. 남북 음악 교류는 1985년부터 2018년까지 네 시기로 나눠볼 수 있었다. 제1기인 1985년에 처음으로 남북 음악 교류가 실현되었다는 점에서 큰 의미를 갖는다. 서로에 대한 적대적인 감정을 그대로 표출하였던 1985년에 비해 1990년에는 통일 지향적 공통점을 찾거나, 남북 모두 서로에게 긍정적으로 작용할 요소를 찾기도 하였다. 햇볕정책과 함께 이어진 2기의 남북 음악교류는 민간단체를 중심으로 다양한 분야의 음악 교류가 있었으나 일회성에 그치는 행사가 많았으며, 북한보다는 남한에서 적극적이었다. 이어진 3기의 10년간은 단 1회도 음악 교류 행사가 실현되지 못하였다. 그러나 실제적인 교류보다는 가상공간인 YouTube에서의 음악교류가 진행되었다. 그리고 이러한 교류를 통해 남한 사람들에게 북한 음악이 하나의 콘텐츠로 자리잡아가고 있음을 보았다. YouTube를 통한 음악 교류는 2018년에 들어 16년 만에 실제 교류로 실현되었다. 정치 교류의 재개와 함께 이루어진 음악 교류는 비록 한계가 존재하나 남북의 민족공동체 인식에 크게 기여하였다고 평가할 수 있다. 향후 남북 음악 교류를 위해서 남과 북은 신뢰 회복에 기여한다는 마음으로 임해야 하며, 이를 위해 남북 협력과 관련한 통일교육이나 문화다양성 교육이 국가적 차원에서 이루어질 필요가 있다. 또한 어떠한 방식이든 간에 더 자주 만나고 더 자주 상대의 음악에 노출될 필요가 있다. 그리고 신뢰를 기반으로 장기적, 정례적 교류를 위한 프로세스를 마련할 필요가 있다.
