지역사회 요인과 미취학 자녀 어머니가 받는 이웃의 지원

Abstract

최근 지역사회 및 지역 공동체에 기반하여 부모와 지역사회가 함께 아동을 키우고자 하는 움직임이 증가하고 있다. 이러한 정책과 프로그램의 효과적인 운영을 위해서는 지역사회 내 이웃간 자연스러운 교류와 지원 행위가 뒷받침되어야 한다. 어떠한 요인들이 이웃간 지원 행위를 촉진시키는지 규명하기 위해 국내외에서 연구가 수행되었으나, 어린 자녀를 둔 가족의 관점에서 이웃이 제공하는 지원의 양상과 이에 영향을 미치는 지역사회 요인을 살펴보려는 시도는 부족하였다. 본 연구는 이러한 배경에서 미취학 아동을 둔 어머니가 이웃으로부터 받는 지원의 양상은 어떠하며, 영향을 미치는 지역사회 요인은 무엇인지 알아보고자 하는 목적으로 수행되었다. 본 연구에서는 한국아동패널(PSKC)의 2014년 7차 패널에 응답한 1,527명의 자료를 활용하여 미취학 자녀를 둔 어머니가 이웃으로부터 받는 지원의 양상을 살펴보고, 어떠한 지역사회 요인이 이웃으로부터의 정서적, 도구적, 사교적, 정보적 지원에 영향을 미치는지 분석하였다. 연구문제를 규명하기 위해 빈도분석과 상관관계분석, 다중회귀분석을 실시했다. 본 연구의 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 미취학 자녀를 둔 어머니가 이웃으로부터 받는 지원은 척도의 중간값 수준인 것으로 나타났다. 지원의 유형별로 살펴보면 정보적, 정서적, 사교적, 도구적 지원 순으로 나타났다. 모든 형태의 지원에 걸쳐 취업 여부와 조부모 거주 여부가 유의한 영향을 미쳤다. 비취업모가 취업모보다, 조부모와 거주하지 않는 가구가 같이 거주하는 가구보다 더 많은 지원을 이웃으로부터 받았다. 둘째, 지역사회 제반 환경 중 지역 시설 이용 횟수가 이웃의 지원에 유의한 영향을 미쳤다. 놀이터, 공원, 도서관 등 지역사회 내 시설을 많이 이용하는 어머니일수록 이웃으로부터 더 많은 지원을 받았다. 지역사회의 공공 및 문화 시설이 이웃 지원이 이루어지는 장소 혹은 이웃간 관계망을 형성하는 장소로 작동하고 있다고 볼 수 있다. 셋째, 어린이집 및 유치원, 사설학습기관의 이용시간이 길수록 어머니가 받은 이웃 지원이 더 많았다. 자녀가 시설에서 보내는 시간이 증가할수록 정보 공유가 증가하는 등 자녀를 매개로 사회적 지원이 이루어진다고 볼 수 있다. 넷째, 도시와 농어촌 간 이웃 지원의 차이가 유의한 수준으로 나타났다. 정서적 지원과 도구적 지원에 한해 농어촌에 거주하는 어머니가 도시에 거주하는 어머니보다 높은 수준의 지원을 이웃으로부터 받았다. 이는 도·농 간 이웃 관계의 차이를 보고한 선행연구결과를 부분적으로 뒷받침한다. 이러한 결과는 지역사회의 공적 인프라 수준에 따라 사적 인프라인 사회적 지원의 수준이 다르게 나타난다고 해석할 수 있다. 또한 지역사회 내 자녀의 돌봄과 교육 인프라가 미취학 자녀를 둔 어머니의 이웃 관계에 영향을 미친다는 점을 보여준다. 본 연구결과는 이웃 간 공동체성을 통해 지역사회 내에서 돌봄을 분담하고자 하는 정책적 시도들이 가능성이 있음을 시사한다. 본 연구는 어머니가 주관적으로 평가한 지역사회 관련 변수들을 사용했다는 한계가 있다. 또한 2차 자료의 한계 상, 인과 관계를 파악할 수 없고 이웃의 지원이 일어나는 구체적인 장소 맥락을 이해하는 데 한계가 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 지역사회 관련 요인과 이웃의 지원 행태 간의 관계를 조명함으로써 선행 연구에서 간과되었던 부분을 검증하였으며 지역사회의 어떠한 환경적 특성이 이웃의 지원에 영향을 미치는지 실증하였다는 데 의의가 있다.

The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship of neighborhood characteristics and neighbors support of mothers with preschool aged child. In this study, 1,527 respondents to the 7th panel of the Korea Children's Panel (PSKC) were examined. This study analyzed which neighborhood characteristics affected emotional, instrumental, sociable and informational support from neighbors. Frequency analysis, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were conducted to identify the research questions. The main results of this study are as follows. First, the support received from their neighbors was found to be about the median value of the scale. By type of support, informational, emotional, sociable, and instrumental support was shown in order. Non-employed mothers and mothers who dont live with parents or parents-in-law received relatively more support from neighbors. Second, use frequency of local facilities was significantly related with neighbors support. The more mothers use the local facilities such as playgrounds, parks and libraries, the more support they received from their neighbors. Public and cultural facilities in the neighborhood work as a place where it forms a network of neighbors and exchange support. Third, the hours at daycare centers, kindergartens and private learning institutions were positively associated with neighbors support their mothers received. It can be interpreted that mothers received the support from neighbors for the information of facilities and education as their children spend more time at those facilities. Fourth, the difference in neighbors support between cities and rural areas was partially significant. For emotional and instrumental support only, mothers living in rural areas received higher levels of support from their neighbors than mothers living in cities. There is a limitation in that this study used subjective measurement. This study also did not identify the casual relationship between neighborhood characteristics and neighbors support. Nevertheless, the findings are meaningful by shedding light on the relationship between neighborhood factors and neighbors' supporting behavior of mothers with preschool aged child.
