Abstract
The effects of alcohol and girdling on growth, color, yield, organic and inorganic constituents of tobacco plant, Hicks, were studied by sand and neld cultures. The plant height and DM yield of the tobacco plant were accelerated by methanol, ethanol and buthanol treatments. The content of nicotine in the tobacco leaf was decreased by the alcohol and girdling treatments. It suggests that alcohol inhibits the biosynthesis of nicotine in the tobacco roots. The content of K in the tobacco leaves was increased in the plots of methanol and ethanol except for buthanol. The optimum concentrations of methanol, ethanol and buthanol treatments for good quality of tobacco leaves were 0.3-0.4%, 0.3-0.4% and 0.2%, respectively.
