가족살해 모티프와 가족 공동체의 붕괴 -1930년대 염상섭 장편을 중심으로

Abstract

This study search for the meaning of the family killing motif which is repeated in the Yeum Sang-seup's 1930's novel. During the year of 1930's Yeum Sang-seup wrote 『Love and sin』(1928), 『Two minds』(1929), 『Furious anger』(1930), 『Three generations』(1931), 『The fig tree』(1932) which are his famous works. The main narrative of these works is the making a love marriage of hero and heroin. Fundamentally, the love marriage sets the independent individual as a premise, the independent individual has his/her own a decision to select his partner. In the Yeum's novel the New-women struggle to get the partner(the hero), which isn't appeared in the Lee Kwang-su's novel 『Without affection』(1917) which is famous for the first Korean modern novel. This struggle to get a partner is similar to the capitalistic economy structure, in which the individuals struggle to get the money by any other methods. Especially the Bourgeois is afraid of failing to maintain his status, so they try to get money as much as he can. If he fails to get money much more, he can't live as a bourgeois. So he must get money more and more, this makes the inner world of the bourgeois who are ready to kill each other for the money. Kim Seung-whan insist that Yeum's novel is showed the centering on a Family, which gives to hero as Jo Deuk-ki in 『Three generations』 a comfort and a conservative thinking. But we find out that the member of family kills each other to get money because of the capitalistic economy structure. In the capitalistic economy we can't imagine the community as well as family, who struggle to get money as much as possible, or to be defeated in no money. So the daughter kills his mother although she didn't(『Love and sin』) and mother kills his daughter(『Furious anger』) and the wife kills her husband(『Three generation』). The member of family kills each other, the community is collapsed. Moreover, the nuclear family is also collapsed because the husband try to have only right to rule over his wife and family. The New-woman is to be killed by her husband because she struggles for the structure of the nuclear family.(『Two minds』) And in the 『A fig tree』 Lee Mun-kyung refuse the suggestion to get money by the esteemed family her husband and find out her husband's immorality. So their nuclear family is collapsed by money and her abortion and her husband's immorality. Finally, we conclude that Yeum's novel show us the breaking up the expanded family because of the capitalistic economy structure and the nuclear family is also collapsed because of husband's dictatorship in the bourgeois society.
