dc.description.abstractToday, companies are confronting new challenges such as the increasing liberalization of market, automation in office and factory, and development of information technology. Firms competitive advantage is achieved by accumulation and its useful application of intellectual capital. It is difficult to create and imitate intellectual capital. So intellectual capital is a source of firm s competitiveness. Companies must take actions to foster intellectual capital strategically.

First, companies should increase R&D expenditure for technological innovation. Second, companies should develop human resource The results of empirical study on the degree of intellectual capital(Tobin's Q) in korean manufacturing companies are as follows First, R&D expenditure for technological innovation is linked to increase companies intellectual capital.

Second, human resource development is not related to firm"s intellectual capital. Third, managers must change their minds in the intelligence of their workforces. In other words, managers should regard employees as competitive sources.
