Abstract
Network Age is one of the terms that best describe the current society. The development

of IT technologies allowed geographically distributed corporate companies to form a

network and work together as a coordinated unit in order to compete in this global and

changing economy. We are observing the emergence of the so-called Virtual Enterprises

(VE), a new type of organizations. A new paradigm is required for the effective and efficient

operations of VE. In this paper, Object Oriented Operations Management (O3M) is

presented as a new paradigm for analyzing distributed production systems in this Network

Age. Although many researches studied the object oriented approaches in the operations

management area, none is directed to applying the object oriented approach to operations

management itself. O3M emphasizes new sets of principles and approaches in the design,

operation and coordination of distributed production systems.
