- Abstract
- Corporate culture is a very important topic in business management irrespective of time
and space. Though it became a buzzword in the 1980s, its importance is being emphasized
again nowadays mainly due to the increase of M&A. Despite the growing tendency of
worldwide M&A, the failure rate of M&A also increases. The major critical factor known for
the failure is an inappropriate management of corporate culture clash. This study proposes a
model that classifies all (not only the culture clash of M&A) types of culture clash--a two-bytwo
matrix model combining domestic (intranational) and cross-border (international)
culture clashes with micro (intraorganizational) and macro (interorganizational) culture
clashes. Foregoing studies on culture clash were classified into the four culture clash types
and then were reviewed with emphases on the meaning and the measurement of each type.
With the descriptions of contents and limitations of the foregoing studies, conclusion,
discussion, and implication for the future study are also made.
