This thesis titled A Study on Social Status of Women in Turkey: With the Focus on the Legal Institutions was written as a part of the first-year(1992-3) research program of the long term research project of the Institute of the Middle East Studies, HUFS, under the subject of Womens Social Position in the Middle Eastern Islamic Countries. It especially deals with the legal aspects of womens status in Turkey. It is concerned with Turkish womens social position in legal terms through contemporary law, so its focus is primarily on the philological study of legal documents.

This report is consisted of four parts; in the first part, it manifests the purpose and motive of this research and presents its objects and methods. And the second part is concerned with the historical background of legal processes to improve womens rights in Turkey. In the third part, it deals more specifically with the present social status of women in the modem Turkish law. As the conclusion of these previous studies, the last part deals with womens social status in the modem Turkish society on its legal aspects.
