The issue of military sexual slavery began to attract public interest and various social movements began to deal with it at the end of the 1980s. These social movements have developed through the following process: the raising of the issue by the Korean women"s movement → cooperation of other Korean civil organizations → solidarity with the Japanese women"s movement → participation of the Japanese civil movement → solidarity with civil movements in other victimized Asian countries → cooperation with international NGOs. There are no significant chronological gaps between the different stages, but each subsequent stage can be identified from preceding ones by its expansion of the scope and value orientation. Korean women"s organizations developed their movements based on feminism and included nationalism as well. In the process of expanding the movement, they used a common basis of feminism to establish links with women"s movements in Japan or other victimized Asian countries, and other countries around the world. In addition, a broader conception of human rights, on which this movement has depended, has brought in the assistance of the world human rights organizations. At the same time, the Korean women"s organizations have attracted support from the Korean public and civil organizations by appealing to nationalism. Solidarity with North Korea is forged on the same basis. The respective nationalisms of Korean and Japanese organizations sometimes create conflict within the movement, and feminist solidarity systematically disregards the aspect of imperialism / colonialism which is inseparable from the issue of military sexual slavery. These problems require close and careful analysis in the discussions of the military sexual slavery issue.-
