Abstract

The barrier of the world-community has been from the lack of human understanding. If the width of human understanding were enlarged to the historical, intellectual and theological life, the barrier could be overcome. In doing so, above all, the epistemological view for ourselves, our neighbours and out world must be changed. The present writer thinks that the study of the history of religion is very fit for the new epistemology. Because the history of religion has been made by the historical, intellectual and theological man. This understanding has been influenced by historian, wilfred cautwell smith. And so, the purpose of this study has been to find out Smith's human understanding in three perspectives.
