dc.description.abstractThere are clinical conditions when rapid control of hypertension is needed, such
as malignant hypertension, hypertensive left ventricular failure and encephalopathy, and
perioperative management of hypertensive patients requiring emergency operation.
The rapid reduction of blood pressure can be achieved with closed-loop type blood pressure
controllers safely and rapidly. Among them, pole assignment self-tuning control algorithm,
a newly adopted adaptive control algorithm using sodium nitroprusside dihydrate, showed
excellent results in our experiment with hypertensive rabbits. Convergence time to a set point
was less than 630 seconds and standard deviation of maintained blood pressure was within
3.9 mmHg.
