Abstract
This paper would like to speak about the births of audiences, readerlistener-
viewer, the identity discourse and their unique experiences. Who
are the media audiences, and what do they keep the specific experimental
reality? What flow do they have? Answering to this question, it will be a
good way to not only understand the audiences but also examine the
modernity closely. Because cognition and experiences of audiences
reading, listening, viewing in modern society have intimately connected
with social discourse and meaning determination as well as individual
ways of life. Firstly, this paper examines the discourse of media audiences
in western society keeping with for a long time. Next, we will consider the
births, experiences and the meanings of reader, listener, viewer in our
society. Periodically, it would be from Japanese Colonial Era, 1910-1945 to
1970s, when the national-modernization project had nearly accomplished
and come to the television golden age. Especially, it will be a core period
when each medium was firstly emerged and had popularity. This study
will ultimately turn toward argue upon the multiple media usability, how
the audiences have articulated with these media. Here, we will explain the
logic of the audience-cultural capital hierarchy, individualization in
multiple media consumption.
