정상기의 「東國地圖」제작 과정에 관한 연구 : 『동국여지승람』과『해동지도』 계통의 위치 정보를 중심으로

Abstract

본 논문은 조선전기의 지도 계통에 비해 정상기(1678~1752)의 〈동국지도〉에 나타난 정확성의 혁신적 개선이 어떤 자료에 입각하여 가능하게 되었는지를 몇 몇 사례를 통해 살펴보았다. 기존의 연구에서 정상기가 주요 자료로 삼아 〈동국지도〉를 제작했다고 언급된 『동국여지승람』 (1531)뿐만 아니라 1730년대 이전에 제작된 『해동지도』 계통의 그림식 지도의 위치 정보에 주목하였다. 본 논문에서는 첫째, 두 자료가 보완적으로 사용된 사례로 압록강과 두만강의 유로, 함경도 명천의 해안선, 전라도 순천의 白也島를 들었다. 둘째, 『해동지도』 계통의 그림식 지도를 참조하지 않았다면 표현하기 어려운 사례로 제주도 남쪽 해안에 잘못 표시된 灣(또는 호수), 『신증동국여지승람』 에는 없지만 『해동지도』 계통의 지도에는 나오는 많은 지명을 들었다. This paper examines through a few examples on what grounds Jeong Sang-gis innovative improvement of Dongguk Jido was made possible compare to the maps of early Joseon Dynasty. It focuses not only on Dongguk Yeoji Seungram which was mentioned in existing studies to have been used as a main reference for Dongguk Jido, but also on the location informations of illustrated maps such as Haedong Jido made before 1730s. First of all, for examples of complementarily using two materials, the waterways of Aprok River and Duman River, the shoreline of Myeongcheon, Hamgyeongdo, Baekyado in Suncheon, Jeonrado are presented. Second of all, for examples of maps that would have been difficult to express without the reference of pictorial maps in the sorts of Haedong Jido, it suggests the miswritten gulf (or lake) of the Southern coast of Jeju Island, and several geographical designations that are mentioned in Haedong Jido but not in Sinjeung Dongguk Yeoji Seungram.
