dc.description.abstract | Authors studied on the development and cytoarchitectonics
of the cerebral cortex in the orbital area of the frontal lobe (Brodmann's area of 11) from 118 (63 males and 55 females) Korean fetal normal brains, and summarized the results as follows: 1. The thickness of the cerebral cortex was 547/-1 of male, 500/-1 of female at the fifth month of fetal age and increased rapidly until the sixth month, and from the seventh month to the ninth month increased slowly and thereafter increased rapidly. As the relation to the brain weight, up to 51~ lOOgm stage of the brain weight it increased rapidly, up to 400gm of the brain weight increased slowly and thereafter it increased rapidly again. 2. The differentiation of the Iarnintation of the cerebral cortex began at the beginn of the seventh fetal month (26th week of the gestation period) and during the seventh fetal month the laminaion of the cortex had almost occurred but even at the end of the seventh month there was some undifferentiated cortex and so there might be a great individual difference of lamination. 3. The cell density of the cerebral cortex was very high during fifth and sixth fetal months and thereafter it decreased gradually as the fetal age increased. As the relation of the cell density with the brain weight, up to lOOgm of the brain weight the cell density was very high and thereafter it decreased gradually as the brain weight increased. 4. The nerve cells of the fetal cortex might be increased very rapidly up to the sixth month of fetal age and thereafter the number of the nerve cells of the cortex might be stabilized. | - |
