This study intends to examine how the academic basis of Ilseontongjo-ron(日鮮同祖論'). a historical theory that prehistoric Korean and Japanese were of the same blood, changed in modern Japan.

Ilseontongjo-ron, which was recognized as a theory of "public history" when historical science started in modern Japan was formed on positivistic study by the first professors in course of Japanese History, at (Tokyo) Imperial University.

As Ilseontongjo-ron was a discourse concerning with the origin of Japanese emperor. Tenno. and his family, a logic of homogeneousness between Korean and Japanese was not approved among many nationalists who believed the genuineness of Japanese Kokutai(r國體). a complex of nationality and Imperial family, from prehistoric era. In other words, while this theory justified invasion of Korea, it was not easily approved domestically. So we can say that Ilseontongjo-ron was a one which had self-contradiction. From the academic viewpoint, the basis of Ilseontongjo-ron changed according to deepening the degree of text-critique for "Kojiki(『古事記』) and "Nihon-shoki(『日本書紀』) on which Ilseontongjo-ron had grounded. As a result, the academic basis of Ilseontongjo-ron was weakened.
