〈潘氏傳〉의 이중적 성격과 그 의미

Abstract

This thesis pays attention to the meaning of dual structure of Banssijeon (潘氏傳). This novel attempts to describe the difficulties of married women through a heroin, Banssi"s troubles caused by the wives of her husband"s brothers.

However, analyzing the form and substance of this novel, it emphasizes not women"s role and situation but men"s role and situation. The conflict among daughter-in-laws which caused the main conflict of this novel changes into a struggle for power of a patriarch among men in the same family.

Therefore this novel shows dual structure such as dual narrative, dual antagonistic structure and the dual index of punishment. These dual features are connected with the inconsistency of the theme which tends to solve women"s problems depending on the patriarchal system.
