Abstract
The ‘-neungyo’, the interrogative ending of the Gyeongsang dialect, is used as the ‘haso’ degree or ‘haiso-haso’ degree on the honorific system for hearer. This usage aspect is confirmed by actual conversational data. The former opinion on the origin of ‘-neungyo’, that it was originally the ending ‘--neungayo’, is denied from some grounds, i.e. disagreement of degree on the honorific systems for hearer, appearance at unique sentence construction of Gyeongsang dialect. The ‘-neungyo’ is regarded that it originally started from the construction ‘-neun geos(formal noun)-i(copula)-yo(ending)’, and underwent the process of grammaticalization.
