인식적 비합리성의 이행

Abstract

인식적 합리성에 대한 전통적 견해에 따르면, 인식적 합리성의 논 의는 믿음에 제한되며, 더 나아가 믿음의 합리성은 그와 관련된 증거에 의 하여 전적으로 결정되는 것으로 이해된다. 이 글은 믿음뿐 아니라 믿음을 산출하는 탐구에 대하여도 인식적 합리성이 적용될 수 있다는 필자의 다른 논문의 논의를 발전시켜, 탐구의 합리성이 그 결과로 산출되는 믿음의 인식 적 합리성에 영향을 미친다는 논증을 제시한다. 탐구가 비합리적일 경우에 그 결과물로서의 믿음도 비합리적이게 된다는 것이 논증의 요지를 구성한 다. 이는 믿음의 인식적 합리성을 모든 통시적인 고려로부터 독립하여 정의 한 전통적 견해, 그 중에서도 증거주의를 논박하는 중요한 의의를 지닌다. According to the traditional conception of epistemic rationality, the concept of epistemic rationality applies exclusively to beliefs, and the epistemic rationality of a belief is determined exclusively by the evidential profile of the belief. This paper extends the authors previously published argument that not only beliefs but also inquiries can be the target of an assessment of epistemic rationality. I claim that, when an inquiry is epistemically irrational, it makes the consequent beliefs irrational. If my argument succeeds, the traditional conception of epistemic rationality, especially evidentialism, which defines the epistemic rationality of a belief purely in terms of its evidential profile, cannot stand.
