주희의 지각 개념의 연원 : 지 개념과 관련된 논의를 중심으로

Abstract

선진 그리고 한대 문헌에서 지(知) 개념은 다음과 같은 의미를 갖고 있다. ① 지는 혈기를 가지는 동물과 인간의 생명 활동의 일부이며, 이 때문에 사물의 분류 기준이 된다. ② 지는 외부 대상에 대한 감각적 지 각과 인식 뿐 아니라 이에 대한 반응인 감정ㆍ욕망 등을 포함하는 활동이 다. ③ 지는 외부 대상의 자극과 연결되어 있는 것으로 외부의 유혹에 끌 려갈 수 있는 활동이다. ④ 지는 신체의 활동 그리고 기(氣)의 활동과 밀 접하게 연결되어 있기 때문에 신체의 소멸과 함께 소멸할 가능성이 크다. 주희의 지각(知覺) 개념은 용례상 지 개념과 상당 부분 일치하며 관련 논 의 역시 상당 부분 일치한다. 그러나 주희의 지각 개념에는 지 개념에 빠 져 있던 도덕적 의미가 추가되어 있다. 주희는 인심도심론을 전개하면서 지각을 도덕적 본성에 근거한 지각인 도심과 신체와 혈기에 근거한 지각인 인심으로 나누고 도심을 중심으로 한 수양 이론을 제시한다. Zhi in the text of the pre-Qin and Han periods has the following meanings. ① Zhi is part of the vital process of animals and humans that have xueqi, so it is used as the basis by which animals and humans are classified; Thus, botanical organisms and inanimate things dont have xieqi and zhi. ② Zhi is a process including not only sensual perception and knowing but also emotion and desire as their reaction. ③ As far as zhi is resulted from outer impulses and can be easily driven by them, zhi is a passive process. ④ Because zhi is closely connected with the actions of the body and qi, it will hardly exist when the body ceases to exist. Zhuxis zhijue corresponds with zhi for the most part, as does the related discourse. But Zhuxi adds an ethical definition which zhi does not have, to zhijue. Developing the discourse on renxin and daoxin, he divides zhijue in two: daoxin, which is rooted in moral nature and renxin, which is rooted in the body and xueqi. He also develops the self-cultivation theory focusing on daoxin, the moral zhijue.
