칸트의 실체와 <제1유추>

Abstract

칸트는 <제1유추>에서 실체를 고정불변적인 어떤 것으로서 규정 하며, 그것의 보다 구체적 의미를 밝혀내기 위한 논의를 꾸민다. 그러나 칸트의 야심찬 기획은 결국 논의의 불명료함과 복잡성 때문에 좌초되고 만 다. 이러한 불운한 상황을 진단하고 처방하기 위해, 나는 우선 칸트가 <제 1유추>에서 사용하는 실체의 개념을 개괄하며, 칸트의 실체에 대한 이해에 서 혼란이 보이고 있음을 지적토록 할 것이다. (II) 다음으로 칸트의 이러 한 혼란은 두 가지 의미의 실체 개념, 즉 시간 고정자로서의 실체와 속 성 담지자로서의 실체를 서로 구별 없이 사용하는 데서 기인하게 된다는 사실을 밝히며, 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 <제1유추>에서 탐구되는 실 체의 의미는 결국 단수성과 절대성을 바탕으로 하는 물질에로 수렴되어 야만 함을 주장할 것이다. (III) 그렇지만, 이러한 물질의 현존은 결코 존재 론적으로 정당화될 수 없고, 단지 우리의 사유 활동에 수반의식이자 궁극 적 자의식으로서 항상 부수하는 초월적 자아에 의해서만 인식론적으로 올 바르게 규정됨이 보아지며 논의는 마무리될 것이다. (IV) In the First Analogy of the Critique of Pure Reason, Kant determines a substance as something persistent and tries to make a sophisticated argument to support this assertion. Kant's ambitious project, however, collapses because of its unclarity and complexity. Facing this untoward situation, firstly, I will outline the concept of substance used in the First Analogy and point out that Kant holds a confused view of substance. (II) Secondly, I will show that this confusion results from his topsy-turvy use of the two different types of substances - a substance as an underpinning of time and a substance as a bearer of attributes. In order to solve this problem, I will emphasize that the meaning of substance implied in the First Analogy should turn out to be matter which is founded upon simplicity and absoluteness. (III) Nonetheless, the existence of matter, in actuality, cannot be justified in an ontological sense. Rather, it should be observed that this existence is meaningfully demonstrated in an epistemological sense only with regard to the transcendental I as an ultimate self-consciousness that accompanies all kinds of thoughts.
