Abstract
There were general Yang'an registers that were created through the government's

land survey projects, but there were also other kinds of Yang'an registers as well,

which documented all the information of land units created by individuals and

individual houses, general authorities of local governments or the Gungbang offices,

or even Seoweon and Hyanggyo schools. Aud there were registers that were created

by the land owners as well.

Government-created Yang'an registers were produced maiuly for preservation, and

copies which were made out of the original documents were the ones that were

actually used. Examined in this study is how Gungbang Yang'an registers,

Haengshim-chaek documents or personalfindividual) registers were created and used

in the past. Aud it will also be emphasized in this article that not only the

government or the local authorities who were in charge of levying taxes, but also

the land owners who were paying taxes, were well utilizing the Yang'an registers.
