Abstract
This is a syntactic inquiry into the acquisition of English functional projections by

Korean EFL learners. The investigation, embedded within the Minimalist Program of

Chomsky, reveals that the two fundamentals of the MP, 'the conceptual necessity' and

'the economy principle', play the determining role in steering the developmental path.
