Abstract
The collective proton acceleration is experimentally investigated when a 0.24 MeV electron beam pulse is injected into a 3.0×10-4 torr vacuum drift tube through an Lucetype anode. Intense electron beam is generated by S.N.U" pulsed power system. The electron beam is emitted from 4 mm tungsten cathode located 6 mm from a stainless steel anode with a tapered 12mm hole in the polyethylene on axis. The protons are produced from the conical surface of the polyethylene insert. Thus, proton are accelerated into the vacuum drift-tube by electron beam. The accelerated ion energy is determined by the time of flight and the range energy/ track etching methods. With a 0.24 MeV, 30 A, 60 ns electron beam, the proton energy up to approximtely 1.6 MeV/amu were observed.
