Using corporal punishment in the schools has been a controversial issue for the last a few years. The present study is to investigate the differences between the students and the teachers how they see the issue. Because the formers are punished and the latters "perform" the punishment, they might have quite different point of view. Eight middle- and high- school students who have experiences of corporal punishment (two of them are punished almost everyday) were interviewed and six teachers who have experiences of giving punishment were also interviewed. Differences between them were found in many aspects: how often corporal punishment t삶e place in schools, why or for what teachers use the coercive method, how corporal punishment is performed, "positive" and "negative" effects of the punishment and fianlly, if the corporal punichment is performed on the basis of equity.-
