Abstract
Having come in contact with materials for researches and seem how the academic world is moving, in china, the present paper is written with intent 1) to stimulate Korean academic society and 2) to make the results of researches in Korea be internationally recognized. Since Hongleoumong (紅樓夢, The Dream of the Red Chamber) is becoming a matter of worldwide interest, various translations are issued all over the world, though the state of affairs in Korea is not well informed to the world. To our great regret in particular, the complete translation in Naksonjae (樂善薺) Collection, considered the very first translated version in the world, is left completely unknown. However, one may expect that vigorous activities in 1980s would change the situation. Recently, literary approach to the Studies of Hongleoumong is prosecuted actively. Comparative studies, mythological studies and structural studies that launched in the United States of America, have an effect not only on China but on the whole world. If we have a closer look at the situation in mainland China, researches on Hongleoumong has attained the remarkable stage quantitatively and qualitatively in spite of long interruption. In Korea, scholars awarded a degree within or from outside the country are now forming a school for the sake of researches of Hongleoumong. As for the Honghak (紅學, Studies of Hongleoumong) in Korea, we take great pleasure in its joining the current of the world.
