地理敎育科의 目標와 發展 方向에 關한 硏究

Abstract

This paper examines education goals of the Department of Geography Education, and explores a new direction that is being taken to reform the curriculum of the Department. This endeavor is essential for the Department to secure specialties within the system of Seoul National University and to adjust to the changes in the national education system. Major goals of the Deaprtment include the following: (1) teacher education in the undergraduate program; (2) training of geography education specialists in the graduate program; and (3) training of professors and scholars of geography and geography education in the doctorate program. A prerequisite to the achievement of these goals is the development of various courses related to subject-matter pedagogic knowledge (including courses on goegraphy teaching methods and learning theories). This course subject-matter is not offered in the Department of Geography, College of Social Science. Hence, these courses would be the core of the Department of Geography Education. this paper suggests several ways of organizing these subject-matter pedagogic geography courses, to be adopted in the undergraduate, graduate and doctorate programs of the Department.
