- Abstract
- Hypertext can be effectively used in history teaching and leaming. It helps students to understand the nature and process of making historical knowledge by providing the relatedness between knowledge construction and its modes of representation. Using hypertext, students can experience the historian's cognitive process and aware the interpretive and contingent nature of historical knowledge. Some theoretical considerations in using hypertext for this purpose are as follows. First, using hypertext to reconstruct historical knowledge should be based on procedures of the cognitive representation of historical texts including subtexts and literal texts. Second, when constructing hypertext, proper vertical or horizontal links should be organized according to the forms and contents of historical texts. Finally, unit information pictures, especially in the interface mode, should be designed to show the nonlinear and complicated process of historical knowledge making.
