- Abstract
- In idealistic condition of the reading novel, the reading will be established in a linear procedure, with some pauses and the reconsidering of the paths that the reader read along. The reading of any text cannot be accomplished in a single glance or only one glimpse. Selective reading and retrospective interpreting, they are the main characteristics of novel reading. For finding the things what happened in the mental sphere during the reading process,
the reader must not interrupted by any physical disturbances. This is the reason that the questionaire is given after the reading finished. The impressions that the reader has taken from the text they are concentrated for the characters in the novel. The reader makes the critical assumptions with the character's overt and introvert traits, and along the line of reading the reader corrects it with accumulating materials from the text. The reader judges the values of the character's feeling, emotion, causalities of actions, ethical validity. This act of value judgement is a kind of value formation as a critic, and it's a kind of internalization of literary value. Through the course of reading, the reader enlarge his sphere of life, emotional, logical, behavioral, ethical and ideological ground. The main theme of the novel becomes the vital element of the reader. For example, in the case of this study, the hero Zorba engraved as an ideal feature who pursuit the eternal freedom and the reader identify it with his desire for freedom of himself. The humanistic love for freedom and it's practice in real life of the hero, it supplies the vital energy for the formation of the reader as an ideal individual, and making the possible world for him. The act of interpretation of the novel will be done as a form of provocative challenge for the reader. We can obtain the life energy for the formation enlarged self during reading the novel, and it's the last goal of novel reading.
