Abstract
This paper is to investigate whether the goals and content of geography education in the 6th high school curriculum correspond to the aim of the curriculum's revision, with regard to the basic aim of geographical education, such as the realization of democratic citizen's consciousness, and the growing of geographical judgement ability. Frst, I identify the definition and content principles of the curriculum of geography education. Secondly, I survey the changes and the characteristics of the curriculum of the high school geography education in Korea. Thirdly, I explore the problem of the 6th goegraphy education curriculum through the analysis of "Korea Geography", one of the texts of common social studies in high school and seek for an alternative geography education curriculum. This paper concludes that few meaning differences, if any, are found between the content of "Korea Geography" in the 6th high school curriculum and that in the 4th and the fifth curriculum. New tendencies and problem-solving efforts, however, are not difficult to find in "Korea Geography" in the new curriculum.
