Abstract

Novel reflects manners and heads for historical consciousness. Manners means space and historical consciousness does time. 'Mansaejeon' is a literary work written by Yeum Sang-seub, which assumes a different aspect from 'A Tree Frog of Specimen Room'. Literary meanings of 'Mansaejeon' are summerizedas followed. 1. 'Mansaejeon' wrote simple construction. The story arranges that writer came to Seoul because of critical condition of his wife and returned to Tokyo. It reflected the situation of colonization with summary method. 2. With flat character of observer, it illuminated a life with wine and woman and the poor reality of the colony. 3. It's style impressed diffuseness because that it is lack of closeness and force in difficult, long and complex sentence. 4. The realms of the novel are life consciousness, ridicule of observer, criticism of convention and resistance to Japanese colony. 5. Self-consiousness of social reality expanded to "Two Minds" and "Three Generations". As confronted with pursuit of aesthetic by Kim Dong-In, aesthetic of love by La Do-Hyang aesthetic of life by Hyeun Jin-Keon, it has apocalyptic meaning of reflection of customs and sociol-consciousness in terms of space. Ryeum Sang-seup gives a figure to sadness and joy of commoner's life with realistic technique.
