Abstract
The aim of this paper is (1) to find out the valuable determinants of adolescent aspiration in Korea, (2) to determine whether or not observed social status differences are closely related to aspiration and other factors. (3) And through this study we can draw some suggestion of the system of opportunity in Korea. Selected 221 males were examined with 8 variables,: adolescent aspiration(X1), parental expectation(X2), teacher's expectation (X3), friends, expectation (X4), experience of participatory socialization at home (X5), amount of leadership experience(X6), academic performance(X7), and social status(X8), Judging from the fact that the variables included in this study can explain the adolescent aspiration at the level of 60% in reciprocal action, our adolescent aspiration is determined mainly by these 7 variables. And the fact that the background of adolescent seems to relate not only to aspiration but also to other variables shows that the Korean society seems to become a closed one gradually and our education may fail to disconnect the ties between status origin and destination. But they still believe ones performance is the most valuable to their goals and they dont feel the limit of opportunity in our country so much. In these senses we conclude that we dont live in such a serious frozened society of opportunity, rather in a society warning seriously such a result in advance. So we should try to guide adolescent individually so as not to be influenced by origin of status, especially through paticipatory socialization and parental expectation and through letting them have more experience of leadership.
