국어사전 용언활용표의 음운론적 연구

Abstract

국어는 용언의 활용양상이 복잡한 언어이다. 그것을 간단한 규칙으로 기술할 만하지 않으므로 국어사전에서 모든 용언 표제어에 대해 활용정보를 제공해야 한다. 그렇지만 같은 방식으로 활용하는 용언들에 대해서도 매번 비슷한 활용정보를 반복하는 것은 지면의 낭비이자 불필요한 정보의 남발이기 쉽다. 그래서 최근의 몇 국어사전은 그러한 활용정보를 간추려 부록으로 용언활용표를 싣고 있다. 용언활용표는 비슷한 종류의 정보를 한 자리에서 간단명료하게 보여 줄 수 있는 효과적인 장치이다. 이 국어사전들이 부록으로 실은 용언활용표가 음운론적 관점에서 적절하게 작성되었는지 검토하는 것이 이 글의 목적이다. 국어사전마다 용언 활용표의 모습이 제각각이기 때문에 각각의 장단점을 면밀히 분석하는 일만을 이 글에서 맡고자 한다. 이글 바탕으로 바람직한 용언활용표의 모형을 실제로 내보이는 일은 뒷날에 가능할 것이다.

국어사전에서 제공하는 용언의 활용정보는 두 가지가 분명하게 구별되어야 한다. 형태론적 활용정보와 음운론적 활용정보가 그것이다. 어떤 용언에 어떤 어미가 붙어서 활용형을 형성할 수 있느냐, 그리고 그렇게 형성된 활용형이 어떤 문법적 기능을 가지느냐 하는 것은 형태론적 활용정보에 해당한다. 반면에 그렇게 형성된 활용형이 어떤 음운론적인 형태로 실현되느냐 하는 것은 음운론적 활용정보이다.

The purpose of this paper is to examine the tables of conjugation attached to 8 Korean dictionaries in terms of phonological perspective, out of which 3 were compiled by Japanese scholars. 4 dictionaries out of them try to classify conjugational endings phonologically, and 5 try to classify conjugational stems phonologically. Cosmos Korean-Japanese Dictionary(コスモス朝和辞典)(1988), Shogakukan Korean-Japanese Dictionary(朝鮮語辞典)(1993), and Korea University"s Korean Dictionsry (고려대 한국어대사전) (2009) show comparatively systematic and accurate tables of conjugation. Conjugational aspects are displayed in the most concise form in Shogakukan Korean-Japanese Dictionary, which still has minor defects. When we design a better table of conjugation, we should decide at the same time how to relate it to the conjugational descriptions in the main text of a dictionary.
