『까라무루』(Caramuru): 서사시의 대위법적 변주

Abstract

본고에서는 산따 히따 두라웅의 작품 「까랴무루. 바이아의 발견에 관한 서사시」와 게우 아하이스 감독의 영화 「까라무루: 브라질의 발명」를 서사시의 혼종화와 그에 수반되는 장르의 확산이라는 측면에서 비교분석하고자 한다. 이를 통해 서사시의 장르적 본질 규명과 더불어，두라웅의 서사시가 전통 영웅 서사시로부터 타 장르인 영화에 이르기까지 확대· 변용되는 과정 속에서 나타나는 상호텍스트성의 근거를 밝히고 두 작품의 서사적 기법을 각 시대별 사회, 문화적 특수성과의 상관관계 속에서 파악하여 그 함의에 대해 고찰해보고자 한다. 이와 같은 분석을 토대로 시간적 장르적 매체적 간극을 뛰어넘는 열린 텍스트로서 서사시가 하나의 총체적인 그림으로 확장될 수 있는 가능성에 대해 탐색해보고자 한다. 이에 더해，본고의 이러한 논의는 오늘날과 같은 대중 멀티미디어 매체 시대에 전통 문학 매체가 대중들에게 다가갈 수 있는 새로운 형식을 제시해줄 수 있다는 점에서，궁극적으로 문학적 서사가 지닌 본원적인 가치에 대한 통찰이 될 수 있을 것이다. Based on the notion of hybridization of genres and the consequent expansion of the concept of arts, this study looks into epic genre comparing different forms of artistic expression in cinematographic and literary works -the film Caramuru: The Invention of Brazil of Guel Arraes and the literary narrative Caramuru: An Epic Poem about the Discovery of Bahia of Santa Rita Durao, respectively. It also seeks to find the intertextual relations between these two works that appear in the process of cinematographic adaptation of Duraos epic poems. Moreover, this study aims to examine narratological implications of the two works in relation to social and cultural distinctiveness of the periods in which the works were created. In addition, the study ultimately intends to provide insight of foundational/original values of literature considering that traditional literary genres can provide a new form of reaching public in such a multimedia-dominating period as nowadays.
