해방 전후 한국농촌의 공동노동과 호락질: 공동노동에서 이탈하는 단독노동 배후의 공동체 이데올로기와 경제논리

Abstract

이 글은 식민지 시기 쇠퇴 혹은 변질 국면 이전 한국 농촌의 공동노동이 공동체적 계기 외에 상품경제 및 임금노동과 관련한 개인적ㆍ이해타산적 계기를 아울러 갖는 것으로 자리매김하고, 그 전제 위에 식민지시기에 나타난 변화의 동력과 방향을 점검하려는 기획으로부터 비롯되었다. 이를 위해 우선 2장에서는 일제시기 일본인들이 주도적으로 생산하던 조선농민의 공동노동에 관한 담론들과 조선총독부의 농촌 정책을 분석한다. 농민사회가 국가에 의해 편성된 식량경작자들의 사회적 구성물인 한, 그 이해를 위해서는 (식민지) 국가정책의 궤적에 대한 분석이 불가결하기 때문이다. 이어 3장에서는 전(前) 식민지 단계로부터 식민지 경제체제를 경과하면서 나타난, 농촌의 공동노동을 지탱하는 경제논리의 변화를 검토한다. 이는 일제시기 농촌의 공동노동조직 결성과 운영에서 결정적 역할을 하였던 지주계급의 이해(利害)와 전략을 드러내는 계기로 사용될 것이다. 마지막으로 4장에서는 이런 가운데 농민들이 농촌의 공동노동에 대해 어떻게 인식하고 어떠한 방향으로 움직이고 있었는지를 점검한다. 이를 통해 재래의 공동노동조직과 촌락질서가 지니고 있었던 모순이 무엇이었는지, 그 모순이 해방 국면에서 어떠한 해소의 궤적을 밟고 있었는지가 드러나게 될 것이다.

This article aims to characterize the Korean rural collective labor as being driven by individual-based and interest-seeking motives besides of communal ones at least since mid-19th century, and to re-estimate the changes that occurred in the colonial period at the first half of the 20th century. For these objectives, this article analyzes the colonial discourses and the government-generals policies on Korean rural collective labor (chapter 2), traces the historical path of the principles of collective labor and tenant system in rural societies (chapter 3), and examines the cognitions and momentums of peasantry under the such conditions (chapter 4). In conclusion, this article suggests a direction in understanding the nature of collective labor and single-handed labor, which can be utilized to reconsider main characters of peasant society.
