17세기 후반~20세기 전반 水稻作 土地生産性의 장기추세

Abstract

The 36 crop records collected from the southern part of Korea, especially from Cheolla province and Kyungsang province shows the long trend of decline of rent per unit land in the paddy farming in the period from the late 17th century to the early 20th century. It is the decline of land productivity that brought out such long trend. The trend was urged by the decline of rent ratio, especially in the late 19th century, when the society was disintegrated with the deep economical crisis. The trend includes several short changes of steep decrease and restoration caused by the shocks mainly from drought. The severest droughts visited in the early 1730s, the early 1810s and during twenty years after 1882. There observed another severe shock in the early 1850s, the background of which is not clear yet. The long trend of decline stopped finally around 1890s and entered into the opposite long trend after 1900s. The increase of land productivity of paddy farming urged by the rapid export of rice to Japan is interpreted to cause such a dramatic rebound.

전라도와 경상도를 중심으로 한 남부지방에서 수도작의 두락당 지대량은 지금까지 수집된 총 36건의 지역 사례에 일반적으로 17세기 말부터 19세기 말까지 장기의 감세 추세를 보이고 있다. 그 주요 원인은 수도작 토지생산성의 감소에 있으며, 19세기 후반에는 지대율의 감소도 동시적으로 작용하였다. 장기의 감소 추세에는 단기의 충격을 받아 급하게 감소한 뒤 회복하는 변동이 내포되었다. 단기의 충격으로서 심각했던 것은 1730년대 전반, 1810년대 전반, 1876년 이후의 한발이었다. 1850년대 전반에도 큰 충격이 있었으나 그 원인은 명확하지 않다. 장기에 걸친 감소 추세는 1900년 이후 증가 추세로 반등하였다. 그 주요 원인은 쌀의 대일 수출에 자극된 수도작 생산성의 증가였다.
