평화연구로서의 갈등해결 연구: 평화적 과정과 평화 성취에의 기여

Abstract

갈등해결은 학제간 연구이고 응용 실천 영역이라는 특징 때문에 학문적 토대가 다른 연구자들에 의해 연구되곤 한다. 그럼에도 갈등해결 연구가 평화연구의 한 영역이며 갈등의 평화적 해결을 통해 평화 성취에 기여한다는 궁극적인 목표를 가지고 있음은 간과될 수 없다. 갈등해결 연구는 갈등의 근본원인을 탐구하고 해결 과정을 실행함에 있어 폭력의 극복을 강조하고 평화 성취라는 궁극적 목표가 갈등 당사자들과 그들의 문제 해결 및 관계 변화를 통해 실현될 수 있는 구체적 접근을 모색한다. 이런 접근 방식은 국제 평화 현안을 탐구하고 평화구축을 모색하는 연구에도 그대로 적용된다. 갈등해결 연구가 평화연구이기 때문에 가지는 이런 차별적 접근과 실행 방식은 갈등해결 연구의 정체성을 드러내는 것으로 간과되지 않아야 하며 평화연구와 갈등해결 연구의 접촉점이 드러나지않고 있는 한국적 맥락에서도 고려되어야 한다.

Researchers of different backgrounds study conflict resolution due to its character as an interdisciplinary, applied study. Yet, we cannot ignore that conflict resolution as an area of peace research has a goal of contributing to ultimately accomplishing peace. Therefore, it emphasizes overcoming violence and achieving peace at each stage of analyzing the root causes of conflict and facilitating the resolution process, and takes specific approaches to realize them in terms of resolving conflict and changing relationships by the concerned parties themselves. These approaches are applied to international peace issues and peace building efforts in the same way. The distinctive approach of conflict resolution characterizes the identity of conflict resolution research as peace research, and this identity must not be ignored. We must also seriously consider this in the Korean context, in which there is a vague relationship between peace research and conflict resolution research.
