Abstract
In this work I tried to describe the syntactic structures of modern German with the theory of "context-free grammar with complex-notation (CGN)" . In spite of the well-known claim that the context-free syntax is not adequate to deal with the natural language I showed the possibility of treating German syntax almost perfectly by the following method: the category of the German syntax is divided into syntactic main category and subcategory composed of grammatical features. The whole amount of context-free rules which
are required for the description of surface structures of German are reduced in a few of Chomsky normal forms. The problem concerning to the discontinuous elements in the surface structure, the problem of generalized syntactic rules required for the morphological variants of German, the problem of transformational rules etc. can be satisfactorily solved by the CGN. The CGN is also possibly to use to deal with German for the automatic translation.
