Abstract

Studies about spanish prepositional system are relatively scarce in comparison with abundant monograhies concerned with particular preposition. 1n this work we have examined some well-known traditional and structural definitions and systems of Spanish prepositions, specially those of B. Pottier (1962), R. Trujillo (1971), M.L. López (1984), and M. Morera (1984), and we have reached a conclusion that they are not convincing for their lack of methodological foundations. So we have tried to establish, through the structural method of strict sense, an adequate system of Spanish prepositions with which we can explain not only oppositional relations existent among Spanish prepositions, but also the derivation of meanings in parole from its unique representation in Iangue.
