영어 관용구의 연구 -주로 영역성서에 나타난 관용구를 중심으로-

Abstract

Language always changes with time. And the biblical translation mirrors the social background and the spiritual atmosphere of the age. This is an empirical study to compare idiomatic expressions of the Authorized Version of English Bible with those of other avai1able versions published before and after A.V., taking each version of the Bible into the chronological account. And its scope is limited to the gospel according to Matthew 6:24-34. The purpose of this paper is to find out why some English biblical idioms remain intact, some disintegrate into other turns of phrase, or others are replaced by some other idioms, with English scriptural idioms in question traced, through the stages of change, to their source.
