독일어의 문법적 주어기능에 관한 이론적 고찰

Abstract

독일어에서 주어가 갖는 문법적 기능 (SUBJ) 은 일반적으로 영어와 같은 형상구조 언어가 갖는 주어의 문법적 기능어와는 달리 구조적으로 단일하 게 표현되는 경우가 아니다. 이 논문에서는 독일어 주어의 문법적 기능을 단순히 구조적요로 기술하는 문제를 넘어 주어가 갖는 의미역(Theta-Role) 과의 관계를 고찰함으로써， 주어의 다양한 문법적 현상을 언어 보편적 인 의 미역구조로부터 설명하려고 한다. 특히 문법적인 주어가 나다나지 않는 예 문들의 통사적인 구조를 검토하고 문법적인 주어가 의미역 구조로부터 유 도되는 과정에서 일련의 어휘규칙에 의해 삭제된 사실을 논의 할 것이다. 먼저 독일어의 전통문법에서 문법적 주어와 심리적 주어의 불일치에 대한 주장을 검토하고 나아가 종래의 Thema-Rhema 구조나 Topic-Comment 구 조의 문장분석에서 주어를 Thema 혹은 Topic과 일치시키려고 하는 노력에 따른 문제점을 논의할 것이다. 다음으로 현존하는 문법이론 중 변형생성문 법 이론과 어휘기능문법 이론을 가지고 독일어 주어의 기술에 따르는 문제 점들을 논의하고 끝으로 문법적 주어란 술어의 추상적인 개념구조인 의미 역 구조에서 특정한 의미역이 어휘적 사상(lexical mapping)을 통하여 유도 된 것으로 결론을 맺고자 한다.

The grammatical function of SUBJECT in German cannot be de scribed uniformly in the configurational structure as in English. Traditional German grammar asserts that the grammatical subject should be differentiated from the psycho1ogical one. However, it was not a1ways possib1e to find the correct psychological subject, and besides there were no theoretical methods for the derivation of the grammatical subject from the assumed psycho1ogical or conceptual subject. Thus 1 try in this paper to establish some kind of derivational connection between the grammatical subject in the syntactic surface structure and the corre sponding thematic role in the conceptual or thematic structures. Several problems are disscussed concerning the characteristics of the grammatical subject and the thematic roles. In particular 1 give some concrete arguments for the existence of the empty category in the subject position in German. This empty category has, however, no corresponding thematic role, though it has some grammatical features such as person and number. On the other hand there are some thematic roles, for in stance [Experiencer], from which two different grammatical functions can be derived as shown in the examples Der Junge friert and Deη Jungen friert. These problems of the relationship between the grammatical subject and the corresponding thematic role are discussed and resolved within the Lexical-Mapping Theory of Lexical Functional Grammar.
