Abstract
For the seismic design in Korean peninsula, the current site classification and design response spectra have been determined based on those of NEHRP provisions and UBC derived
particularly from western United States of the region of strong seismicity. The use of seismic design derived based on other regions can result in misleading the ground motions for seismic design of Korean peninsula. Therefore, the site classification and design response spectra of the Korean peninsula for reasonable seismic design must be derived based on seismic ground responses at the corresponding local geologic and soil conditions. For finding a solution to this problem, it had been studied site classification and design response spectra using new methods in Korea and foreign countries. In this paper, it was considered problems and development of the current site classification and design response spectra.
