- Abstract
- SAT(Scholastic Assessment Test) I(Reasoning Test) and the SAT II(Subject Tests) are designed to assess many of the skills that are important to students' success in college. In 1997, Korean is adopted in SAT at first. The number of participant in SAT II Korean is on the increase.
The object of SAT II Korean test shall be to treasure the ability of speaking and understanding accurately and fluently. Its questions are devised by 5-6 members who constitutes the a examining committee.
A Style of setting questions is as follows. The first section is hearing test. It is composed the conversational form of Korean. The second is grammar test, and the third is reading.
SAT II Korean has two limits. One is that it can't evaluate speaking and writing ability of students because of its multiple choice system. The other is that it is held once a year. In addition, SAT II has to adopt a new test system which is proper to the multi-media age.
To foster Korean language education as foreign language and SAT IT Korean, we should develop the Korean language materials for high school students. Also we have to establish and standardize the curriculum of Korean as foreign language. It is necessary to furnish correct information about SAT IT Korean on Koreans in America. Koreans in America should encourage their offsprings to become bilinguist, And they should think highly of their offsprings' having a good command of Korean.
