고구려의 국가전례와 음악

Abstract

국가전례(國家典禮)란 왕실(혹은 황실)을 중심으로 국가적인 규모로 시행되는 각종 전례를 말한다. 고구려시대에 국가규모로 시행된 전례는 이미 우리에게 잘 알려져 있는 10월의 제천의례인 동맹제(東盟祭)를 비롯하여 종묘제(宗廟祭), 사직제(社稷祭)와 같은 것이 있었다. 고구려시대에는 이러한 제례(祭禮) 이외에도 성격과 기능을 각각 달리하는 여러 형태의 국가전례가 각각 다른 목적으로, 다른 날짜에, 다른 형태로 치러졌다. 그러나 고구려시대의 국가전례는 오례(五禮)체계로 기록되는 고려시대 이후의 전례처럼 일정한 전례서(典禮書)를 갖추고 있는 것이 아니라서 국가전례의 전체적인 틀을 파악하기 어렵고 관련 기록 또한 영성해서 그에 대해 세밀한 연구를 개진하는 데에는 한계가 있기 때문에 그간 고구려 국가전례에 대한 연구는 지엽적이고 부분적으로 이루어져 왔다. 게다가 기록 내용도 우리의 문헌보다는 중국 측 문헌에 더 많이 의존해야 했기 때문에 기록의 객관성에 대한 문제를 인식하지 않을 수 없는 것이 현실이다. 또 국가전례와 관련된 기록이 간간이 있다 하더라도 그 전례의 전체 틀이 제시되어 있지 않기 때문에 전례의 세부적인 내용을 비롯하여 그 전례가 시행될 때 수반되는 총체적 의미의 악(樂)에 관한 세부내용 또한 찾기 어렵다.

National rituals are all sorts of ceremonies performed in the court (royal palace) on a national scale. The national rituals performed in Goguryo Period were the sacrificial rites, such as Dongmengje 東盟祭, the rite of worshiping Heaven in October, Jongmyoje 宗廟祭, and Sajikje 社稷祭. In addition to these, there were various national rituals with different traits and functions. This paper will look into the characteristics of overall national rituals, by classifying national sacrificial rites, hunting rites, and banquet ceremony. Furthermore, this paper will clarify the aspects of music performance accompanied in such rituals and the relationship between the scene of music performance in the wall paintings and particular national rituals. This paper presumes the parade painting in An'ak, No. 安岳三號墳 from the records of ancient wall paintings as the portrayal of the procession of Goguryo king's royal carriage coming from the palace. If this proves to be the procession of Goguryo King, the discussion on the scale, characteristics, and contents of ceremonies performed in Goguryo King's coming will be more advanced.
