남과 북의 음악이론연구

Abstract

분단 이후 남북한 모두 각자의 독립적인 음악사적 항로를 개척하기 시작하여 올해로 60년을 맞이한다. 그런데 양측 음악사가 소통이 없이 전개되었기 때문에 서로 간에 음악사의 궤적에 대해서도 살필 여지가 없었다. 이 때문에 양측이 60년간 쌓아 온 음악사적 결과물이 근대사의 지속 속에 배치되는지 혹은 현대사에 자리 잡는지를 검토할 수 없었다. 한반도 음악사가 어디를 향해 어떻게 가고 있는가에 대해 파악하는 일은 이 시대의 음악업자들에게 긴요한 일이다. 음악업자들이 무엇을 왜 해야 하는가에 대한 답을 구하는 원천이 바로 음악사적 성취단계에 대한 인식이기 때문이다. 그러나 양측 음악 간의 직접적인 소통에 한계가 있는 한 양측의 성과에 대한 내실 있는 검토는 어렵다. 그러나 현재 제한적이나마 양측의 성과를 살피는 것은 필요하다. 왜냐하면 이는 직접적인 소통의 준비 작업으로서 의미가 있기 때문이다. 본고에서는 특정 갈래인 전통음악과 관련해서 남북 양측의 음악 연구 성과를 검토해볼 것이다. 구체적으로 지난 60년간 남북한 각자가 축적해 놓은 연수가적 업적이 무엇이었는지를 정리할 것이고, 다음으로 양측의 연구 성과가 어떠한 연구 목표와 방법에 의해 생산되었던 것인지를 검토하게 될 것이다. 나아가 남북한 음악 연구의 성취를 한반도 음악사의 전개라는 큰 틀 속에서 음미해보도록 할 것이다.

This paper is a review about research during 60 years on traditional music in South and North Korea after dividing. Although a direct comparison is neither possible nor worthwhile, it might be somewhat productive 10 compare the music research in South and North Korea in a sense that they are in the same historical period and they are dealing with their respective musical problems. The research themes and periods of both sides are summarized in the Table below. They made different approaches in determining the individual research themes and objectives. However, the transition to modernism and the foundation of discours about music were found to be common to each other.
