한국어 성역할 갈등 척도 (Korean Gender Role Conflict Scale: K-GRCS) 타당화 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 O'Neil 등(1986)이 개발한 성역할 갈등 척도(GRCS)를 번역한 한국어 성역할 갈등 척도(K-GRCS)의 타당화를 위하여 수행되었다. 한국의 남자 대학생 156명에게 K-GRCS, 한국형 성 역할 검사(김영희, 1988), 그리고 남성 성역할 스트레스 척도(윤진, 최정훈, 김영미, 1989)가 주어졌고 여자 대학생 168명에게는 각 문항의 남성이란 단어를 여성으로 바꾼 K-GRCS 가 주어졌다. 요인 분석을 통해 K-GRCS은 3개의 요인을 가진 것으로 나타났고 이는 O'Neil 등(1986)의 연구에서 나타난 GRCS의 4요인 구조와는 차이를 보였다. 각 문항의 남녀간 평균점을 비교한 결과 일부 문항은 남성보다는 여성의 성역할 갈등을 나타내는 것으로 드러났다. 기존의 한국형 성역할 척도들과의 상관 관계는 K-GRCS가 남성성의 부정적 영역을 반영함을 나타냈다. 이와 같은 결과들은 잠정적으로 K-GRCS가 남성성의 한 측면을 나타내는 한 척도로서 사용될 수 있으며, O'Neil 등(1986)이 제안한 4개의 요인에 따른 해석은 유보할 것을 제안하고 있다.

The purpose of this study was to translate Gender Role Conflict Scale(GRCS) and to examine the cultural validity of Korean version of GRCS(K-GRCS). In 1986 O'Neil, Helms, Gable, David, and Wrightsman developed Gender Role Conflict Scale that assesses mes's problems with their gender role socialization. They found the construct of gender role conflict consists of four different factors; Success, Power, and Competition(SPC), Restrictive Emotionality(RE), Restricted and Affectionate Behavior Between Men(RABBM), and Conflict Between Work and Family Relations(CBWFR). These four factors served as factor targents in principal components analyis of K-GRSC obtained from 158 Korean college men. The difference between men and women was examined through 168 female samples. The result suggest three-factor structure fitted better and called the further examination of cultural validity of gender role conflict in the future. The comparison with Korean Sex Role Inventory(K-SRI), and Korean Gender Role Stress Scale for Men prove the gender role conflict is the salient and distinct psychological construct of men. The implications for research and practice are noted.
